Human Evolution: the Story of Oppression.
At some point we were like birds, goats, elephants. Warm climates, and abundant food attracted us like all other life wanting to fill bellies. We hunted and gathered like all other creatures.
Something shifted. No I haven’t read enough theory on this subject I’m just looking at the universe. Take a walk with me.
Something shifted we moved to farming. Some reading here and there has pointed out that slavery first started to become something because of agriculture. The tools were not automated so bodies were necessary. It’s likely they were people who just had no interest in participating, but then found themselves conscripted by the edge of a blade.
We had this big, big world, but much less people, there was always a way to just be a hunter gatherer. If you could slip away, there was somewhere to go. Escape was possible.
Where can I escape now? With every sliver of land claimed by someone you will quickly become a thief, a squatter, or just plain homeless. Wandering is acceptable up until a point, and then you must find somewhere, or else.
Paradox is our lifestyle. Belief is that we have freedom because we don’t have to grow food, or thatch the roof every year. Sickness has been tamed by modern medicine. Law and order leads to justice. Everyone has a chance to become “someone” with hard work.
We can see the problem.
It breathes on our necks.
Hatred, Greed, and Delusion.
Delusion in this age is our acceptance of the “dogma of freedom” supplied by Capitalism. With hard work you can earn money, and have freedom. Money is freedom in our culture. A culture that is now global. When I was young Capitalism had not reached every shore, valley, forest, desert. Now, I see in the news, and on the internet that we are a connected world. Capitalism is global.
Suffering is only kept at bay lest we all slip off into suicidal depression. Hope, even with it’s mirage like quality, is where our energy is being directed. Together we will be stronger. It is how we have arrived in this world of riches, and technology.
But for some reason a great number of us are still convinced that we must conscript our neighbors at the edge of a blade. That self worth is only claimed by bending your inner vision to those who have taken the word moral from the lips of the meek. Time forged blades of steel into taxation, property rights, education of savages, religion, whiteness, and profit. Humanity still struggles to become human.
Bogged down, leveled, knocked over. The radio spits out bits of information about productivity. It’s down, but jobs are up. People should be paid more. Corporations aren’t investing. Workers appear to be driving the economy. The knife blade has morphed into a paycheck.
Freedom from oppression?
If this is a real desire.
We must then understand that love is where evolution is guiding us. Peace is attained through love. There is only one trajectory if we are to make it past the looming breaking point. Yes, we will break again. Growth is ultimately a process of birth and death. Evolution is growth is birth and death. Love is the timeless piece of the universal puzzle. Desire that emerges out of connectedness to all other life is love in action. Humanity can move into that desire in great numbers if we are willing to be vulnerable, willing to be wrong, and to be guided.
Freedom from your own mind can deliver you from self oppression.
Freedom from the minds of others is the ending of oppression, and the beginning of interconnectedness.
